England Under-20s to face France, Portugal and Senegal in Brittany this March

Tuesday 28 Feb 2017
The Young Lions are building up to the Under-20 World Cup finals

England Under-20s will head across the Channel in March to compete in a four-nation tournament in France.

New head coach Paul Simpson will work with his squad for the first time as they continue their FIFA U20 World Cup preparations against Portugal, France and Senegal* in Brittany.

Their first game comes on Thursday 23 March, when they take on the Portuguese at the Stade de Chateau Bily in Saint-Brieuc.

And they face the host nation two days later, on Saturday 25 March, at the Stade Fred Aubert in Saint-Brieuc.

The final game, against Senegal, will be staged at the Stade Municipal du Haut-Champ in Ploufragan Ville on Tuesday 28 March.

The Young Lions have had a busy season so far as they build-up towards May’s finals in South Korea, having played in two similar format tournaments on home soil last October and in South Korea in November.

They started the campaign on home soil under the charge of previous head coach Aidy Boothroyd with two games against Brazil in September and then recorded victories over Netherlands, Germany and USA.

November saw Paul Williams take the Young Lions east to South Korea where they narrowly lost 2-1 against the World Cup hosts in Suwon, but also register good wins against Nigeria (8-1) and Iran (4-1) as their programme saw them face more world opposition in preparation for the summer.

Now Simpson is preparing for the World Cup with three more tough games, by which time he will know who their group stage opponents are following the draw on 15 March.
