Andy Spence warns Everton against SSE Women's FA Cup complacency

Everton have been warned about Brighouse Town’s firepower ahead of the SSE Women’s FA Cup third round meeting between the sides on Sunday.

The West Yorkshire outfit have hit 14 goals in their four Cup ties so far, with hotshot Jodie Redgrave bagging all four in their victory over Long Eaton last time out.

Brighouse sit tenth in FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division 1, but with this being Everton’s first competitive match of the season, boss Andy Spence wants the Toffees to guard against complacency.

He said: “From the reports I’ve heard and the footage I’ve seen so far, they definitely carry an attacking threat so we’ll have to be very much prepared.

“We’ll be going into the game with not a huge amount of information about them, but clearly they had a really good victory in the last round.

“Like with any opposition, we’ll give them maximum respect.

“It’s at their home ground and they have [been trying] to get a big home crowd at the game, so you’re putting yourselves in a dangerous position if you’re not prepared physically and mentally.

“From our perspective, it’s very much about getting our preparations right and being ready for what will be a tough tie.”

Winners in 2010 and runners-up in 2005 and 2014, Everton have a good pedigree in the Cup.

Spence added: “It’s a competition we all enjoy.

“It’s a competition we’ve done quite well in over the years. We’ve got to Finals, won Finals and gone close a couple of times in recent years as well.

“To go as far in the competition as possible is very much our aim.”

Everton will be joined in round three by their FA WSL 2 rivals, with recently relocated Millwall entertaining London Bees at St Paul's Sports Ground, home of Fisher FC.

The Bees reached last season’s Continental Cup semi-finals and they have bolstered their squad by signing Anne Meiwald from Chelsea, Laura-May Walkley from Reading and Amber Tullett, Mollie Burgess and Jordan Littleboy from Watford.

The Final will be played at Wembley Stadium connected by EE for the third year running.

Tickets for The Final are on sale now and children can attend for free, thanks to The FA’s partnership with SSE.

Adult tickets are priced £15 and group booking and charter standard discounts apply.
