Young Lionesses squad named for Euro qualifiers

England will take on Lithuania, Slovenia and Russia in Euro qualifying

Lydia Bedford has named an 18-player squad for the first qualifying round of the UEFA Women’s European U17 Championship.

The Young Lionesses have been pitched against Slovenia, Russia and host nation Lithuania, with matches set to take place between Monday 24 October and Saturday 29 October.

Euro fixtures

Mon 24 Oct: England v Lithuania in Kaunas
Weds 26 Oct: England v Slovenia in Marijampole
Sat 29 Oct: England v Russia in Marijampole

The top two teams in the group will make it through to the final stage of qualifying next spring.

The Euro finals are being staged in Czech Republic next May.

John Griffiths’s U17s finished third at last year’s Euros which secured their route to the World Cup in Jordan earlier this month.

They made it through a tough group but were beaten by Japan at the quarter-final stage.

Goalkeepers: Hannah Hampton (Birmingham City), Emily Ramsey (Manchester United).

Defenders: Shannon Cooke (Arsenal), Georgia Eaton-Collins (Millwall), Grace Neville (Millwall), Poppy Pattinson (Sunderland), Amy Rodgers (Liverpool), Olivia Smith (Chelsea).

Midfielders: Amiee Palmer (Bristol City), Sophia Pharaoh (Southampton), Ella Rutherford (Millwall), Emily Syme (Bristol City), Miri Taylor (Chelsea).

Forwards: Nicole Douglas (Chelsea), Kara Fordjour (Millwall), Lauren Hemp (Bristol City), Jessica Ngunga (Arsenal), Georgia Stevens (Blackburn Rovers).
