England Under-21s striker Danny Ings scored his third goal in as many Premier League games – but it was not enough to prevent Burnley going down 3-2 to Crystal Palace.

The 22-year-old netted his seventh of the season and Burnley’s second, calmly slotting the ball home from the edge of the area after Scott Arfield had robbed Joel Ward of the ball on the touchline.

But, despite putting Burnley two up, it was not enough as Dwight Gayle struck twice and Jason Puncheon also found the net.

Elsewhere, with Liverpool's regular captain Steven Gerrard rested, England midfielder Jordan Henderson donned the armband at Villa Park and made an impact as he assisted the game’s opening goal.

After bringing the ball down and finding himself in space on the right-hand side, Henderson delivered a pin-point cross for striker Fabio Borini to stab home.

England striker Rickie Lambert then secured the win for Liverpool in the 79th minute with a rifled shot low into the bottom corner.

And James Wilson made it a hat-trick of goals for England strikers as the England U20s international side-footed home Manchester United’s second late the 2-0 win over QPR.

Three Lions winger Andros Townsend also had a hand in a late goal as he setup Tottenham Hotspur’s winning strike in their 2-1 win over Sunderland.

Townsend sprinted 50 yards with the ball, before cutting it back for Christian Eriksen to slam the ball home in the 88th minute.

Saturday’s fixtures proved to be a good day for England’s defenders, as several Three Lions players helped their sides keep clean sheets.

Gary Cahill, who returned to the Chelsea side after missing last week’s 2-0 win over Newcastle United, was on hand to keep Swansea at bay and help the Blues run out 5-0 winners.

Phil Jones and Michael Carrick also enjoyed the satisfaction of a clean sheet, as the England duo kept QPR at bay.

In the day's evening kick-off England right-back Nathaniel Clyne and Young Lions midfield duo Jack Ward-Prowse and Harrison Reed helped Southampton to a 2-1 win over Newcastle United.

Ward-Prowse, a key player for England U21s, provided the assist for the first of Eljero Elia's two goals while U20s schemer Reed played 90 minutes. Another U20s player, Matt Targett, came on as a substitute for the Saints.
