The World Cup Wrap

It's the first semi-final day - so before you enjoy Germany v Brazil this evening, catch up with all the latest news from Brazil in the latest World Cup Wrap.

A pat on the Beck
Get well messages have been pouring in for Brazil forward Neymar since injury ruled him out of the remainder of the tournament – and Golden Balls added his best wishes on Monday.

Former England captain David Beckham posted various pictures of him and the Brazilian from over the years and a heart-warming message for the Barcelona man.

Following the challenge by Colombia’s Juan Zuniga, Beckham wrote yesterday:

“Very disappointed to no longer to see Neymar Jr playing at World Cup.

“Considering the pressure he has been under, he has been incredible. Get better soon and I know you will come back even stronger, força neymar.”

The message was accompanied by the three pictures below – the first a fairly recent one, the second taken when Becks was playing for LA Galaxy and the third from when Brazil’s national hero was a child.

Krul to be kind
Holland’s hero of the moment Tim Krul hit back at critics who criticised Louis van Gaal’s decision to bring him off the bench for Saturday’s shoot-out victory over Costa Rica.

The BBC’s Danny Murphy was one of those, stating on air that the change had made Jasper Cillessen look “like a bit of a lemon” and adding that he didn’t like Krul’s antics during the penalty showdown.

The Newcastle keeper fought back on Monday though, saying: “I don’t think I did anything wrong. I did nothing crazy.

“I didn’t shout in an aggressive manner. I told them I knew where they were going because I had analysed it.

“I was trying to get in their heads and it worked. I’m over the moon I saved two penalties doing that.”
