Andros Townsend and Harry Kane have both revealed they are fully fit and raring to go as they step up their pre-season preparation.

Townsend and Kane both suffered frustrating ends to the 2013-14 season, with the former suffering the heartbreak of missing out on the World Cup due to an ankle injury.

The latter managed just six minutes of an England Under-21 fixture against Wales before injury forced him off - and out of contention for the Toulon Tournament in France.

However, the pair have now put the disappointments of last season behind them, and intend to hit the ground running when Tottenham Hotspur kick-off their new Premier League campaign in August.

"It is a big season for me,” said Townsend. “Last year was my breakthrough for club and country and now it is important I build on that and show a lot more consistency then I did last year.”

Townsend played a huge part in helping England secure their World Cup spot in the crunch qualifiers with Poland and Montenegro in 2013, and in an interview with Spurs TV the forward confirmed he has now fully recovered.

With a new manager, Mauricio Pochettino, at the helm, he also added that he is looking forward to taking his game to the next level.

He said: "I am 23 next week, so that will come with age, and hopefully I can build on what I did last

"I did not get much of a holiday, but it was important for me to make sure I was 100 per cent fit coming back to training so I can be fit and impress the manager."

Meanwhile, Townsend's colleague Kane has also expressed his excitement ahead of the new campaign.

Speaking to the club's in-house website, the 20-year-old striker said: "I’ve had a good rest and I’m looking forward to getting back into the swing of things, getting fit and getting on that pre-season tour.

"It will be a tough pre-season but that’s what you want, you want to get fit and be ready for the season ahead. All the lads are looking forward to that. We’ll be put through our paces and it will be good.

"I’m fully fit. The injury was unfortunate but I had my time away, had my rest, did my rehab and I’m back fit now to training fully, so that’s perfect."

Spurs kick-off their Premier League campaign at West Ham on 16 August, before back-to-back home games against QPR and Liverpool on 23 and 30 August respectively.
