Karen Carney won her 100th England cap in the final game of 2014

No England Women’s centurion made their landmark appearance in quite the same surroundings as Karen Carney.

The Birmingham City captain, who first pulled on the Three Lions back in 2005, made her 100th cap in November… against eight-time European champions Germany. At Wembley.

The 3-0 defeat was a disappointment but it was a fitting way for such a talented player to reach triple figures.

Carney is one of only five players to have featured in 12 of England’s 13 matches in 2014 – but only Eniola Aluko scored more goals (11) than Carney’s seven.

She bagged her first of the year against Italy in March, then nabbed one against Montenegro a month later.

The 27-year-old put in a star turn in the 4-0 win over Sweden in August, scoring twice, and she also registered in the final two World Cup qualifiers, against Wales and Montenegro (2).

And she was in fine goalscoring form for the Blues, too, as her eight goals allowed her to pick up the FA WSL 1 Top Goalscorer award.
