Before Clive Draper became involved in Galleywood Youth FC ten years ago the club was struggling and only had one full team on their books. Now, due to his extraordinary hard work they have 24 teams and are now one of the largest youth football teams in Chelmsford.
The club now follow Clive’s motto for the game, ‘football is for everyone’. This ethos has seen the club swell to 350 girls and boys who take part in weekly football sessions. He has also worked to instill a development plan that allows players to progress seemlessly throughout each age group up into the senior team at Galleywood Youth FC.
Clive’s involvement within the club originally started as a coach but has now led to him holding almost every position including secretary, treasurer and fixture secretary amongst others. Alongside his administrative duties, Clive has also dedicated a decade of Saturday mornings come rain or shine, to coach a number of age groups in open training sessions. He spends the other day of his weekend supporting his son who turns out for the Galleywood Youth FC under 17s side.
Not only interested in the playing side of the game, Clive has encouraged a number of youngsters to fufill their potential as young coaches by offering them the chance to attend courses to obtain coaching qualification. As a result the club now has a host of youth players who are passing on their coaching knowledge to the younger sides at Galleywood Youth FC.
Clive has also facilitated some of the youth players in becoming qualified referees as well as offering them the chance to take charge of younger age group matches.
Clive has always strived to create a united identity for the club and has organised overseas tours with a number of the teams, including the most recent trip to Germany with SSVg Heiligenhaus FC. He has been instrumental in organising summer tournaments for the club as well as annual fun days to encourage inclusion and team building.
