Safer Internet Day

The Football Association is again pleased to support Safer Internet Day and endorses the work of the UK Safer Internet Centre.

The FA recognises that within football our offline and online worlds are strongly connected with club/league websites and social networking sites forming an integral part of our communications with children, young people and their parents and carers. We would take this opportunity to remind all those involved within football to interact online responsibly and to promote the values of The FA’s Respect Programme both on the field of play and online.

Safer Internet Day 2016 will be celebrated globally on Tuesday 9th February with the slogan ‘Play your part for a better internet’.

The day offers the opportunity to highlight The FA's best practice guidance in relation to social media and explore the role we all play in helping create a safe online environment within football.

These are some of the ways in which football can play its' part:

Leagues, Clubs and coaches can play their part by showing supporting Safer Internet Day by adding links on League/Club Webpages, Facebook and Twitter and by following The FAs best practice guidance to ensure that club/leagues manage online environments and communications to ensure that they are safe for all involved. Please click here to access The FA's best practice guidance on social networking, websites, mobile phone and email communications.

Young players can play their part by being kind and respectful to others online and seeking positive and safe opportunities to create, engage and share online. The FA's guidance for U18's can be accessed by clicking here.

Parents and carers can play their part by maintaining an open and honest dialogue with their children about their online lives, by modelling positive online behaviours themselves, and also by reporting any inappropriate or illegal content they find. The FA's guidance for Parents/Carers can be accessed by clicking here.
