Coach Tord Grip believes England have the players to score goals this summer.
Tord backs striking quartet
Tuesday, 18 May 2004.
England coach Tord Grip insists The Three Lions do have the firepower to worry defences at Euro 2004.
Michael Owen is the only one of the four strikers selected to have reached double figures for England.
Owen has scored 24 goals in 54 appearances, but Emile Heskey, Wayne Rooney and Darius Vassell have just 12 goals between them.
But Grip believes the quartet are a great blend of skill and strength and can cause havoc against England's Euro 2004 opponents.
He said: "Michael Owen's goalscoring record is better compared to the others, but Wayne Rooney has done well every time he has played for England.
"Emile is the strong big man we need and Vassell has had a good season as well.
"Vassell has struggled sometimes with injuries, but he's fit and should be in the squad.
"Heskey is a little bit up and down but every striker is at some point in the season. But the last two or three games I have seen him play he has done very well."
Of the 23 players selected by Sven-Göran Eriksson, 17 have played in either the Champions League or UEFA Cup this season for their League clubs.
And Grip is adamant that England will see the benefit when the tournament kicks off next month.
He added: "I think it's very important to play international football for your clubs. They come into the national team and are better players.
"They are also playing against some of the players who they met in club competition and are better prepared."
