Lizzie Durack, Paige Williams and Nikita Parris named 'emerging talents' after Euros
UEFA have named three England players among their ‘Top Ten Emerging Talents’ following the European Women’s U19 Championship Finals.
Goalkeeper Lizzie Durack, left-back Paige Williams and forward Nikita Parris helped the Young Lions to a runners-up spot at Wales 2013, and the Everton trio’s performances warranted special attention by European football’s governing body.
Durack kept clean sheets in England’s three group games and in their semi-final win over Finland. In fact, she only conceded in extra-time in the Final when two close-range headers handed France victory.
But the Australian-born stopper excelled herself throughout the tournament, saving a penalty against France in the group stage and producing a magnificent, diving save to deny Ilna Salmi in the last four.
Williams was solid at the back, contributing to England’s four shut-outs, but perhaps had more impact going forward, in particular with her set-piece prowess - and she crashed home penalties against Denmark and Finland.
The lively Parris also bagged two goals in Wales, one each against the host nation and the Danes, and her pace and power caused opposition defences problems throughout.
Meanwhile, Beth Mead finished the tournament as the joint second top scorer with three goals.
