Head Coach Mo Marley and forward Nikita Parris took the positives from England’s defeat in the European Women’s U19 Championship Final.
The Young Lions were beaten 2-0 by France after extra-time.
But they kept six clean sheets en route to the Final and their route to the last four has secured them a place at next year’s U20 World Cup. Many of Marley’s squad are also young enough to compete in this competition again next season.
Marley said: “Once we topped the group, which was a big achievement, the players obviously grew in confidence.
“[In the Final], we were a little bit overawed by the occasion in the first half. Second half [it] was a bit more [of] what we’ve delivered throughout the tournament.
“Once the [first] goal went in, it was probably a bit too much against a really strong team.
“But I’m really proud of them. Hopefully lessons learned and we’ll be better equipped for next year.”
Parris added: “We came so close but France had that little edge over us. Obviously we’re disappointed but we can be proud as a team for what we’ve achieved this tournament.
“We’ll be looking at the World Cup to do a little better than we’ve done in the Euros.”
