Nilla Fischer said the whole of Sweden is looking forward to hosting the UEFA Women’s Euro 2013 Finals.
The defender has won 100 caps for the host nation and she plays her club football in one of the host cities, Linköping, where England will play all three of their group games.
FATV caught up with Fischer on a recent trip to Sweden and she confirmed the buzz that surrounds the country.
She said: “The whole country is very excited to have the Euros.
“We are building new [stadiums] so it’s going to be really fun to have all the great players and all the great teams here in Sweden. It’s going to be a great tournament.
“There’s a lot of people talking about [football] in [Linköping] and people come up to you and wish you good luck. It feels nice to see all the different signs. It’s exciting.”
Fischer also believes Thursday’s match against England in Uddevalla will be vital preparation for both sides with the start of the Euros just over a week away.
The 28-year-old added: “The closer you get to the tournament it’s important to play good [football]. It’s important to play well and hopefully get a win against [England] and I think they feel the same way.”
