England Women's Sport Scientist Naomi Datson tells FATV about her role at Euro 2013
England Women’s Sport Scientist Naomi Datson gave FATV an insight into a player’s post-match fitness schedule during a tournament.
Following Friday’s Euro 2013 defeat to Spain, Datson devised a session for the starting eleven and a separate one for the substitutes, as she does after every game.
The ones that played had a lighter training day aimed at recovery while the subs were required to complete a more intense session to keep them up to speed.
Players have a number of options when it comes to recovery. Some took to the pool on Saturday morning while others enjoyed a bike ride around Linköping, but there is no getting away from the compulsory post-match ice baths.
Datson, who is completing her PhD in Sport Science at Liverpool John Moores University, also liaises closely with the team chef to make sure the players are being provided with the right food throughout the tournament.
