England duo Anita Asante and Jill Scott have put the Spain defeat behind them and are now looking forward to making amends against Russia on Monday.
An Alexis Putellas goal in the fourth minute of added time consigned Hope Powell’s side to an agonising 3-2 loss in their Euro 2013 opener in Sweden.
But the midfield pair are confident they can turn things around and get a result which will keep alive their hopes of making the quarter finals. The top two sides in each of the three groups will proceed along with the two best third-place teams.
Scott said: “There’s a lot of belief in this squad. All the girls know what we need to do and we’re ready to put things right against Russia.”
Meanwhile, Asante, who plays her club football in Sweden with Gothenburg, added: “We’re confident in the squad and the character we’ve had and we’ve showed in previous competitions that we can manage it and get the result that we’re looking to get."
