A match against the reigning World Cup holders is the perfect preparation for the European Championship, believes Ellen White.
England entertain Japan at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium on Wednesday, less than a week before they head to Sweden to take on the best teams on the continent.
White is a part of Hope Powell’s 23-strong squad for the Euros, but for now the striker is focused on facing the world champions.
She said: “It’s an exciting game. It’s fantastic to be able to play Japan just before the Euros.
“You don’t get much better than the World Cup holders so it’s something we are all looking forward to.”
The 24-year-old scored against Japan when the two sides met at Germany 2011, helping England to a 2-0 group stage win.
Norio Sasaki’s charges bounced back to win the tournament and they also won a silver medal at the Olympics last summer.
White is well aware of the quality Japan possess and she has urged her team-mates to show what they can do against one of the leading nations in women’s football.
She added: “We did well to beat them a couple of years ago and they obviously did even better to go on and win the World Cup.
“They are an excellent side. They are very technical and they have a lot of good players who are comfortable on the ball.
“There are obviously no points at stake on Wednesday but it’s important that we perform well with the Euros just around the corner.”
England's European Championship campaign gets underway on Friday 12 July against Spain. They then take on Russia on Monday 15 July and France on Thursday 18 July.
Every game will be broadcast live on BBC.
The final warm-up game before the Finals sees the Three Lions face Sweden in Uddevalla, some 50km north of Gothenburg.
