Eniola Aluko insists England can beat France on Thursday and make it through to the last eight of Euro 2013.
The Three Lions lost their opening group game to Spain but rescued a draw against Russia on Monday, with Toni Duggan’s equaliser coming in the 93rd minute.
The top two sides in each of the three groups progress to the quarter finals along with the two best third-place teams.
Denmark and Finland drew 1-1 on Tuesday meaning the Danes finished third in Group A on two points. If England defeat France they will at the very least secure one of the two best third-place slots.
And Aluko, who scored against Spain, believes her side are more than capable of claiming all three points against a side they haven’t beaten since 1974, as long as they are more clinical in front of goal.
She told FATV: “If you look at both games against Spain and Russia we create chances, that’s not a problem with this team.
“It’s about making it count and making the ‘keeper work a bit more. The focus is on attacking and making sure we score.
“[There is] a willingness to do something special against France and get three points.
“We’ve shown character, we’ve shown fight. Hopefully we’ll have that fighting spirit against France on Thursday.”
