Tom Ince says he can’t wait to get started at Euro 2013 after missing England’s defeat to Italy in their opening match.
The Blackpool forward, who has been a key player in the England Under-21s side as they secured qualification for Israel, was suspended for Wednesday's game.
And, after seeing the young Lions go down to a late Lorenzo Insigne winner, he‘s desperate to be involved when they meet Norway on Saturday.
“As soon as I stepped out on the pitch I saw all of the lads warming up,” Ince told FATV on Thursday afternoon. “It’s worse when you are suspended and think ’I wish I could be playing’. From the sides it wasn’t a nice feeling watching.
“I feel great. As you’ve seen the other day I was having a bit of a blow in training, but it was good for me. It really got me up to speed and I can now concentrate on working with the team.
“Now me, Wilf and Danny will be back in contention. If I keep training hard like I have done today we’ll see what happens on Saturday.”
Despite the opening day defeat, Ince says England must not dwell on the result with their next game so soon after.
It’s important that Stuart Pearce’s men respond quickly and return to the form that took them on a nine-game winning streak that was brought to an end in Tel Aviv.
“Ideally it’s nice to win the first game in a tournament. But last night wasn’t meant to be,” said Ince. “Italy turned up strong, but unfortunately we didn’t turn up on the day and perform like we have for the last two years.
“They didn’t create many clear-cut chances, maybe overall possession they were a little bit better and in the final third they had a bit more creativity.
“But in our team we have players who can slide passes through, make runs in behind, we’ve got goalscorers.
“Come Saturday there will be a few players back in contention, and I’m sure we’ll be ready to go again.”
He continued: “There are some strong characters in this team, some great ability, now we just have to look forward and prepare for Saturday.
“It’s a game that we need to win but I’m sure we are more than capable of doing that.
“If we pick up three points, then all of a sudden last night is forgotten about.
“Sometimes you have to pick yourself up and dust yourself down. We now go into Saturday playing against Norway, who again will cause us problems, but we know if we play our game and play to our strengths I’m sure we can get a win.”
Ince added: “We have to believe in ourselves. Last night was bitterly disappointing and we know we didn’t play to our best, which was even more disappointing.
“We’ve seen what they’ve got and the threats that they have but we know that with the players we have we can cause problems.”
