Gareth Southgate took charge of training for the first time on Monday morning, as England Under-21s began their preparations for Thursday’s game with Moldova.
The new Head Coach met up with his squad at St. George’s Park on Sunday before hitting the training pitches with assistant coach Steve Holland the following morning.
And with Monday being the final day of the transfer window, the prospect of some of Southgate’s squad being involved in club moves remains a possibility.
So the St. George’s Park fax machines are ready for a busy day and Southgate admits training was a welcome distraction for some of his players.
He told TheFA.com: “We’re in the middle of it all really, but it’s most likely with our players that they’re quite settled in terms of their parent clubs.
“There may be a couple of loan moves as the day progresses, but the boys for who that is a possibility have already spoken to me.
“I’m sure that those who are involved will be glad to have just got out on to the training pitch this morning to put that to one side.”
Thursday’s game at the Madejski Stadium is the first of England’s new Euro qualifying campaign and Southgate is already getting his squad focused on Moldova.
And he was happy with the way his first session in charge progressed, with Roy Hodgson watching on, as the squad aim to take last month’s impressive victory over Scotland into the new season.
“We’re very pleased with it,” he added. “Inevitably, when it’s a new group of players and new staff, you would expect there to be quite a lot of enthusiasm.
“We wanted training to be specific to the game but we were also conscious that some of the boys played 90 minutes on Saturday and one or two will train again with the Seniors this afternoon, which is a great experience for them.
“So we just wanted to tailor the session to all of those needs.”
