Tottenham youngster Adam Smith set for Pride Park loan spell
England Under-21 defender Adam Smith
has joined Derby County on a season-long loan.
Smith has already made more than 100 Football League appearances during loan spells with Wycombe Wanderers, Torquay United, Bournemouth, MK Dons, Leeds United and Millwall, and has appeared for the Three Lions 11 times at Under-21 level, the last of which was against Norway at UEFA Euro 2013.
The right back has joined the Rams from Tottenham Hotspur, and County manager Nigel Clough is delighted with his new addition.
Clough told the club’s official website: “He's a player with a lot of potential and we've been impressed with what we've seen.
"Whenever we've seen him in the Championship or on international duty he's stood out as a very solid right-back, and someone that likes to get forward as well.
"We identified Adam as someone we would like to bring in, so to have the deal done within a matter of days is very pleasing and we're sure he'll be a good player for us.
"It also says a lot that Tottenham are prepared to let him spend the season with us.
"They're obviously aware of our reputation when it comes to young players and there's no doubt it'll be a great experience for Adam coming here and playing a full season in the Championship."
Derby County will kick-off their Championship season at 4pm on Sunday when they entertain Blackburn Rovers at Pride Park.
