Nathan Redmond was pleased with the ruthlessness he and his England Under-21s team showed against Scotland on Tuesday.
Norwich City winger Redmond opened the scoring for the Young Lions after just three minutes as they went on to win 6-0 at Bramall Lane.
And the 19-year-old says it was just the start England, under the guidance of Senior Team boss Roy Hodgson, were looking for against their rivals.
Redmond said: "It was a good start from the lads and we wanted to do that early and really stamp our foot down in the game.
"We never really took our foot off the gas. We could have got complacent, but we didn't and came out with an emphatic victory.
"We stopped them playing from the back and made them make mistakes and we countered on that.
"We looked sharp for the whole game and it paid off today."
On his early strike, the livewire winger was quick to praise team-mate Jonjo Shelvey, the man who provided a delightful 50-yard pass to assist.
Redmond said: “Jonjo has that quality, as soon as he put his head up, he can pass from that range.
"I knew that since playing with him in Israel, so as soon as he put his head up I thought I'd test the full-back in behind and luckily it came off.”
With Hodgson in charge of the Under-21 squad this week it is something the players have enjoyed according to Redmond.
And after getting the new campaign off to a flying start, Redmond is confident there is more to come from the team.
He said: "People have said that we haven't got the players and this and that but as you've seen tonight, we have got the players who can play and players who can go out and win games for us.”
