admits it’s hard not to get excited about the attacking potential in the current England Under-21 squad
The Norwich City winger is hoping to be involved in Tuesday’s game with Lithuania in Ipswich, but knows there is plenty of competition for places.
And whoever eventually gets the nod from boss Gareth Southgate will not be without a lack of support from the sidelines, such is the squad spirit in place at the moment.
Redmond revealed: “You can just see the talent that we have in the squad in training, it’s healthy competition and we’re all mates on and off the pitch.
“It’s always good to come together and see the lads and the staff get-together.
“It makes you wonder sometimes that if the players were all in one club side, it would be a very tough side to stay in.
“You can never under-estimate the other lads and it is enjoyable in training so it’s nice to be a part of it as always.”
There’s an element of local interest to this game for the ex Birmingham City player, having made a summer switch to Ipswich’s Anglian rivals.
And while the 19-year-old is expecting club loyalties from the crowd to show on the night, he’s also hoping it can be good natured on a big night for English teams.
“You do get stick wherever you go with different clubs and their rivalries, but we’re playing for the nation at home,” added Redmond.
“So hopefully I won’t get too much stick but I’ll have my head screwed on if selected to play.
“We’ve had some decent crowds with the Under-21s recently, so hopefully we’ll get a decent turn out at Ipswich.”
