England Under-21s forward Jesse Lingard delighted with four-goal Birmingham debut
said his four-goal debut for Birmingham City on Saturday was 'a dream come true'.
The England Under-21s forward, who joined Blues on loan from Manchester United two days earlier, registered his hat-trick inside 33 minutes against Sheffield Wednesday before adding a fourth in the second half.
Lingard's goals helped Lee Clarke's side record only their second League win of the season as they moved up to 18th spot in the Championship.
“I enjoyed it," the 20-year-old told Birmingham City's website, "It’s a dream come true really.
"After the first goal my confidence was up and I just wanted to score more goals then. I’m glad we got the three points as well in the end which is massive for this club.
"I know they’ve haven’t got off to the best start but obviously I have come here to change that and scoring the goals today has got our confidence up."
He added: "I couldn’t carry on because I had cramp in the second-half. Hopefully I can play against Swansea, but if not I’ll be looking forward to Reading next weekend.”
Blues coach Terry McDermott also praised the young loanee and said it was one of the best debuts he's witnessed.
“It was absolutely unbelievable," said McDermott. "I was just a little bit disappointed because I thought he might have got five! I don’t think anyone expected that kind of performance from a kid so young.
"It’s a big ask for him to come into a Championship team. What I like about him is that he’s so laid-back and nothing fazes him.
"They were fantastic goals. It was fantastic for everyone, not just for Jesse, but we're delighted for him."
Lingard will hope to be included in Gareth Southgate's Under-21s squad for their upcoming Euro 2015 Qualifiers in San Marino and at home against Lithuania.
The meeting with Lithuania is at Ipswich Town on Tuesday 15 October, for ticket details click here
