Goalkeeper Jack Butland believes England are capable of winning the Under-21 Euros
believes his team are one of the strong favourites at UEFA European Under-21 Championship Finals which get under way in Israel on Wednesday.
The England goalkeeper cannot wait for the tournament to start and feels his side are brimming with confidence as they prepare for the opening game against Italy in Tel Aviv.
Stuart Pearce's side have won their last nine games without conceding a goal and the 20-year-old feels they stand every chance of coming home with the prize this summer.
Butland said: "I think we are number one. We feel confident in our own ability and our chances and that is the way we will be going into the tournament.
"We have been very good defensively and we are very confident in our defensive ability. We will be looking to keep it up.
"A number of the lads have been to these tournaments before and I experienced the Euros [with the senior squad] last summer."
Butland feels the squad have had the perfect preparations going into the Championship following their training camp in Turkey last week and will be able to cope with the soaring temperatures in Israel.
He added: "The weather is fantastic. The training pitch was good and we are all getting on well. We have had a good week in Turkey where it was just as hot as this. We are getting used to the heat.
"We will be nice and settled here and will be prepared for the first game on Wednesday."
