Sheffield United boss David Weir says Bramall Lane can look forward to staging a 'prestigious' fixture, when England Under-21s entertain Scotland
The young Lions will be kicking off the season against their old rivals as they prepare for the start of a new European Championship campaign.
It will be the first time the nations have met at Under-21s level since 1993 and comes just 24 hours before the England and Scotland senior sides go head to head
at Wembley Stadium.
And former Scottish international Weir, who played when the Tartan Army last appeared at Wembley for the Euro 2000 qualifying play-off, says the football fans of the Steel City can expect an entertaining match between the two country's young guns.
“England versus Scotland at any level is a prestigious event," said the new Blades boss. "It is great news that our historic home has been selected to host a fixture between the Auld Enemy."
Having recently moved to Bramall Lane from Everton, where he coached their youth team and reserves, ex-Toffees defender Weir says he's already learned a lot about the fans in Yorkshire.
“I’ve established the passion of supporters in this city and this fixture gives local supporters the opportunity to see the cream of the developing talent both north and south of the border.
“Of course, working with Under-21s players over the past couple of seasons, plus being a proud Scot, I have a personal interest in the fixture, whilst Sheffield United have a number of players who have played international football at Under-21s level.”
Tickets are priced at £10 Adults, £5 Concessions, £20 Family of four* (*T&Cs apply). For details call the Sheffield United ticket hotline on 0871 995 1889 or visit the website www.sufc.talent-sport.co.uk
