Young Lion Danny Rose makes a memorable Premier League debut.
England Under-21 star Danny Rose announced himself to the Premier League last night (Wednesday) with a glorious strike that helped Tottenham defeat North London rivals Arsenal for the first time in over a decade.
The Young Lion was making his debut in England’s top flight and marked the occasion with a 29-yard screamer that put Spurs 1-0 up and sent the home fans into raptures.
“It was one of those wondergoals. You don’t see too many like that in a season,” said Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp. “It was fantastic technique and a great strike but he has got great ability, he’s a good football player and he’s got a great left foot, and he certainly buried that one.”
The strike was made all the more memorable thanks to the opposition. Tottenham had not beaten Arsenal in the League since 1999 but thanks to Rose and Gareth Bale they were able to secure the 2-1 victory after a late Nicklas Bendtner consolation goal.
Rose has already shone for the Under-21s, scoring the only goal in England’s 1-0 victory over Portugal in November last year, and has become a regular in Stuart Pearce’s squad.
The Young Lions do not play again until September but Rose will be hoping that a few more first team appearances between now and then will benefit his England progress.Watch Danny Rose’s goal against Portugal and his post-match comments by clicking on the video players on the right.
