Spain make it two wins from two, as France held by USA in U20 World Cup
Spain are through to the last 16 of the FIFA U20 World Cup after beating Ghana 1-0 on another dramatic day in Turkey.
A goal from Jese after 13 minutes, his third of the tournament so far, was enough for the Spanish to clinch victory in the Group A fixture
It came after Manchester City's Denis Suarez superbly beat his mark to deliver a perfect low cross - but it was far from a simple victory.
Clifford Aboagye came closing to equalising for Ghana, who also dominated much of the second half and should have scored through Frank Acheampong. But the match ended 1-0, which means Spain are through and Ghana must beat the USA on Thursday to have any chance of joining them.
There was more drama in Kayseri in Group B as Korea Republic twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Portugal.
Ryu Seungwoo and Kim Hyun, cancelled out goals from Aladje and Bruma to hold the group leaders.
Earlier in the day, Nigeria proved too good for Cuba as they won 3-0 to make up for an agonising defeat against Portugal in their opening fixture.
Captain Abdul Ajagun scored his third goal of the tournament for the Nigerians but it was a first-half double from Animu Umar that really set the tone for the game.
The opener came after 19 minutes, a simple tap in for Umar following a squared pass from Olarenwaju Kayode and the second arrived five minutes later when Umar finished cleverly for 2-0.
Olaitan Michael also hit the post for Nigeria, who were in full control, before Ajagun headed home a third after 67 minutes.
In the other early fixture, a last ditch goal from Daniel Cuevas earned the USA a creditable 1-1 draw against France in Group A, denying Les Bleuets an opportunity to qualify early for the last 16, although they remain second in the table.
Cuevas scored in the 85th minute of a tense match, lashing the ball home left-footed after France had failed to clear.
Earlier in the game it had been the story of two penalties one scored by Yaya Sanogo and one saved by Alphonse Areola.
France's penalty came two minutes into the second half when Javan Torre fouled Dimitri Foulquier just inside the area. Sanogo just about did enough to squeeze his spot-kick home.
And the US missed a chance to equalise when they won a penalty of their own for a foul on Mario Rodriguez - but saw it saved by Areola. France then hit the bar before Cuevas' late effort saw the match end all-square. The French now face leaders Spain on Thursday.
