Peter Taylor hoping to call on a strong squad for U20 World Cup this summer
Peter Taylor is hoping to get full support from fellow managers this summer as he takes England U20s to the World Cup in Turkey.
The Head Coach is currently busy assessing all of his squad options for the competition, which starts in late June and runs through to mid-July.
And with the previous two U20 World Cups being held across August, September and October, the former England Under-21 coach is hoping that the timing of this year’s tournament could help him secure a strong squad from the clubs.
He told FATV: "The date of the competition this year is tremendous for us because even if you go all the way, you only finish on 13 July.
"That's not going to mess anybody's pre-season up for the next season.
"I'm sure that managers want some of their players to have a rest but we hope that we'll get help from all of the coaches and the managers.”
With England Under-21s involved in their own Euro Finals in Israel in June and the U19s having Euro Elite qualifiers in late May, it’s a busy summer for all concerned.
But having met with Under-21 and U19s counterparts Stuart Pearce and Noel Blake, Taylor is confident of being able to start forming his squad.
He added: "We've got a lot going on, but we're being careful with the players and it won't be a case of players playing in two different tournaments.
"If they’re in the Under-21s, they’re in the Under-21s, that's how it's going to be.
"We're certainly taking into account that if the U19s progress, when their next tournament is going to be.
"We’ve had a good meeting and we think that we've near-on sorted out the squads.
“So now it's just a case of me getting to see the players and getting to see the managers.
"If they were to see the video clips from all of the players who have played in this U20 World Cup, it's amazing and it didn't do any of their careers any harm.”
