Squad named for Dutch test
Friday, 19 August, 2011
Noel Blake picks his 18-man group for trip to the Netherlands.
England U19s play their first game of the new season early next month when they travel to the Netherlands for a match against Holland.
Noel Blake's side return to action after narrowly missing out on a place in last season's European U19 Championship Finals, when they lost out on goal difference to eventual winners Spain at the Elite Qualifying Round stage in Switzerland.
This season, England have received a bye through the Euro First Qualifying Round, so Head Coach Blake has time to assemble his ideal squad for the Elite Round next year.
And this game is England's second encounter with the Dutch in 2011, after a young side faced them back in March and lost by 3-0 at SDC Putten.
Only three of the players on show that day, George Thorne, Harry Kane and Jordan Obita, will be heading back across the North Sea for this match though.
There are two new faces in the squad who will be hoping to win their first England caps at any level in the shape of Manchester United winger Larnell Cole and Middlesbrough defender Adam Reach, who is joined by two more of his team-mates from the Riverside Stadium. In fact, the north-east is well represented with Sunderland also boasting two players in the squad.
Cole will also be joined by some familiar faces, as fellow Old Trafford youngsters and FA Youth Cup winners Sam Johnstone and Will Keane are included.
The likes of Arsenal schemer Chuks Aneke, last season's U17 captain Nat Chalobah and goalkeeper Jak Alnwick, who was with the U20 squad in Colombia recently, also receive their first call-ups to the U19s squad after previously playing in the younger age groups in recent years.
