Noel Blake saw his side finish their final Euro preparation game with a flourish in Telford on Thursday.
A Calum Chambers goal in the first half was enough to seal victory over Turkey for England U19s, who travel to Belgium in May for the Elite Qualifying Round.
And Blake felt the performance from his side warranted a bigger scoreline on the night, with Turkey twice clearing off the line and Nick Powell seeing a late penalty saved.
Blake told FATV: “I thought we started a little bit hesitantly in the first five minutes or so, but once we found our feet in the game, we looked more likely to score and were more threatening.
“I liked the way we played at times and it wasn’t easy on the surface, but as the game wore on I thought we got better and looked more cohesive and decisive in our passing.
“We got a good goal from Calum and if I’m honest, I’m probably disappointed that we didn’t get more. I felt we should have scored at least another two goals.”
Blake took the opportunity to work with more new players during this meet-up and was impressed with what he saw.
With tournament football for the Under-21s, U20s and potentially the U19s too, Blake knows there could be plenty of opportunities for young English players this summer.
And he feels he’s now well-placed to assess his options, regardless of who is available to him in May and beyond.
He added: “We’ve got plenty of boys away with the Under-21s and we have a situation where potentially some of these boys could be going to the U20 World Cup.
“So I’ve got a little scenario where I need to have a look at one or two more, in case people aren’t available.
“I thought there were some good performances out there tonight.”
