Chuba Akpom scores the winner as Arsenal defeat Urawa Reds in Japan
England U19 international Chuba Akpom
continued his rise at Arsenal by scoring the winner against Urawa Reds on Friday in Japan.
The striker came on as a second-half replacement for Theo Walcott
as Arsenal tried to break the deadlock.
But Akpom's moment came after 82 minutes when he chased a lofted ball forward.
A defender arrived first and attempted to head back to the onrushing goalkeeper, but he could only push it straight to the 18-year-old who duly rolled it into an empty net.
That and Lukas Podolski’s earlier effort were enough to seal a 2-1 victory and the Saitama Cup for Arsenal.
Akpom has scored six goals in just seven appearances for England U19s, and he has also represented the Three Lions at U17 and U16 level.
England internationals Jack Wilshere
, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
and Carl Jenkinson
also appeared for the Gunners.
