England youngster eyes chance in Liverpool squad after first goal
England youth international Jordon Ibe wants to build on his first goal for Liverpool and is aiming for a chance in Brendan Rodgers' plans this season.
The 17-year-old forward, who made his Premier League debut on the final day of the last campaign against Queens Park Rangers, bagged one in the Reds' 4-0 friendly victory over Preston North End on Saturday.
Ibe moved to Anfield from Wycombe Wanderers a year ago and went on to feature twice for the Three Lions at U18s level, against Italy and Belgium, last season.
And the Londoner says he's learned a lot working alongside the club's senior 'pros, and under the guidance of Rodgers, and hopes to get more match experience before the season kicks off.
"I'm just learning from the first-team players and trying to show that until the season starts. Hopefully I can do well," he said.
"I'm learning a lot, especially with defending. The gaffer is helping me a lot with when I haven't got the ball, coming to tuck in and watching the full-back and centre-back; knowing what to do when I haven't got the ball.
"Hopefully I can be consistent and play well so I can get a chance again in the first team.
"When I play, hopefully I can get a goal and help the squad do well this season."
Ibe's strike at Deepdale, driving low from 20-yards beyond former England Under-21s 'keeper Declan Rudd, put Liverpool 2-0 up after Coutinho had opened the scoring.
England winger Raheem Sterling made it 3-0 after the break before new signing Iago Aspas wrapped up a comfortable victory.
And Ibe was delighted to get off the mark.
"[The manager] has told me if I get the chance to shoot, to take it and to make my decisions earlier," he told Liverpool's official website.
"I was waiting for the ball to cross the line; I didn't have a celebration so I just put my hands in front of my face.
"I've always wanted to score in an important match, especially playing with the first team, so once that went over the line I felt so happy."
He added: "It felt really good, especially scoring and playing with the first team. I enjoyed it a lot."
