England U17s Head Coach Peacock happy with side’s preparation ahead of Armenia qualifier
England U17s v Armenia
UEFA European U17 Championship
First Qualifying Round

FFA Academy, Yerevan, Armenia
John Peacock’s England U17 side begin their UEFA European Championship qualification campaign on Thursday having had a “First-class” preparation according to the Head Coach.
The Young Lions get their Euro campaign underway against home nation Armenia tomorrow afternoon before they face Gibraltar on Saturday and Republic of Ireland on Tuesday.
This First Qualifying Round of matches gives Peacock his first chance to see this year group in competitive UEFA competition, and with only the top two of the four nations progressing to the Elite Qualifying Round in the spring, he feels his squad have enjoyed the best build-up possible.
“We asked for an early release from the clubs in order to get some preparation time in,” he explained.
“If the lads had played for them on the Saturday then they would not have been able to train with us on the Sunday, travelled all day on the Monday, so we would not have had chance to get them on the pitch until Tuesday, so I’m very grateful to the clubs that we could get three extra sessions in.”
Having had several days to acclimatise and use the facilities on offer at the FFA Academy, Peacock and his squad seem to have found a home away from home.
“The facilities here are first-class. It’s not too dissimilar to St. George’s Park, and for a smaller nation, it really is top class.
“We had a recce done before the event and they told us it was going to be good, but I think it is exceptional, and credit to the Armenian Federation for the incredible facilities. They are lovely pitches and it is literally a few seconds walk straight from the hotel to training.”
The squad also seem to be enjoying their surroundings, having enjoyed lively training sessions and a spot of crazy golf in their first few days, where they attracted several local autograph hunters who they were only too happy to chat and pose for pictures with.
