Defender tells FATV Italy match was about more than just the result.
England defender Leighton Baines helped the Three Lions to victory in Berne on Wednesday evening, but revealed afterwards that this game was about more than just the result.
The match gave Manager Roy Hodgson an opportunity to have a look at a few new players and ideas ahead of the World Cup qualifying campaign which starts, with Everton star Baines getting a start at left-back and debutants in the shape of Jack Butland, John Ruddy, Tom Cleverley, Jake Livermore and Ryan Bertrand.
"I thought it went pretty well and the lads performced well too," Baines told FATV after the game, which saw England come from behind to win 2-1.
"It was fairly hot and stuffy out there but we're happy with the performance and the result, so hopefully the Manager is too.
"All things considered, it went well, bringing a few new people into the team, some of the younger lads and a couple got their first caps so there are a lot of positives.
"The result wasn't the biggest thing tonight, it was about him having a look at some of the lads who don't feature as regularly as others to give him something to think about, but it's always nice to win games."
