England captain Steven Gerrard fired his side to victory against Hungary on Wednesday night and was quick to dedicate his double to the supporters who formed an impressive 72,000 crowd at Wembley.
Despite being largely in control throughout the game, the Three Lions found themseleves a goal down midway through the second half and it took a quick-fire brace from Gerrard to turn things around and seal the win and Gerrard wanted to share his exuberant goal celebrations with the fans.
"It was just relief to be honest," he told FATV after the match.
"This was a difficult game to play in, coming off the back of the World Cup, and to go a goal down made the job ten times harder.
"So to get the equaliser and then go on to get the winner was a fantastic feeling.
"I just wanted to share it with the supporters because obviously it's been a difficult time both for them and the players of late."
The match also saw Manager Fabio Capello introduce a couple of new faces into the team with debuts on the night for the likes of Kieran Gibbs, Michael Dawson, Bobby Zamora and Jack Wilshere which also pleased Gerrard.
"I thought the young lads were superb tonight," added the Liverpool man. "Especially given the situation of a difficult game and they handled themselves superbly.
"It will certainly give the Manager something to think about for the next get-together."
