Frank Lampard says England are determined to make it to next year’s World Cup finals in Brazil.
Roy Hodgson’s men must defeat Poland at Wembley on Tuesday night to book their place at football’s showpiece event.
Poland cannot qualify for the World Cup – it is a straight shoot-out between England and Ukraine, who face minnows San Marino in their final game.
And after helping his country to a 4-1 win over Montenegro on Friday
, Lampard explained his team-mates are ready to get the three points that would seal automatic qualification.
He said: "If you are playing for your country you want to be at the World Cup and that's why it's a huge game on Tuesday.
"There is a lot of desire. Me and Stevie [Gerrard] have been here a long time and I think that is pushing us on.
"I would like to think now we have the confidence and the threats going forward - I believe we will hold our nerve.
Lampard continued: "Everyone loves playing at Wembley and [Poland] have some big-name players in their team so they will want to come here and put on a show regardless of whether they have qualified or not.
"They will be relaxed and we have to make sure we have the extra edge as we need the win to go to Brazil. We need to come out firing on Tuesday no matter what they do."
A major attraction for England’s latest centurion is the fact the World Cup will be staged at the home of the five-time winners.
The Chelsea midfielder, who was a part of the Three Lions squad at the 2006 and 2010 tournaments, was also in the England party that drew 2-2 with Luiz Felipe Scolari’s side in the Maracana in June
Lampard added: "Brazil is one of the homes of football.
"We believe we are the home of football, but you have to admire their history and the flamboyance they have over there.
"We played there in the summer and you could feel the magic around the place.”
