England and Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney suffers hamstring injury
has been hit by a hamstring injury, just hours after travelling to Thailand with Manchester United on their pre-season tour.
The England striker is expected to be out of action for a month, after scans revealed a torn hamstring.
Rooney was immediately sent back to England from Bangkok for further treatment, despite only landing in the Far East on Thursday morning.
And the 27-year-old spoke of his disappointment, after being ruled out of United's tour of Thailand, Australia, Japan and Hong Kong.
"Gutted to have picked up a niggling injury, especially as training was going so well," said Rooney on his Facebook page.
"Heading back to Manchester to have it assessed fully but early indications are nothing to worry about."
The injury comes just days after Reds boss David Moyes and captain Nemanja Vidic revealed Rooney had returned for pre-season training
in his best shape for years.
If Rooney is ruled out for a month it would mean he could feature in The FA Community Shield sponsored by Mcdonalds against Wigan Athletic at Wembley on Sunday 11 August.
