A look at how England's players faired in Wednesday night's Champions League
It was mixed emotions for the seven England players in Champions League action on Wednesday night.
, Jack Wilshere
and Theo Walcott
all started for Arsenal. Walcott got his name on the scoresheet as the Gunners recorded an impressive 2-1 victory at the Stade Velodrome against Marseille - winning their tenth consecutive away match and setting a new club record in the process.
The England winger gave his side the lead in the 64th minute, and a further strike from Aaron Ramsey was enough to seal the three points for the Gunners, despite the hosts pulling a goal back through Jordan Ayew in the dying seconds.
From an evening of joy in France to a night of frustration at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea suffered a 2-1 defeat against the Swiss side Basel.
, Gary Cahill
and Frank Lampard
, who received his 100th cap for the Three Lions in Ukraine last Tuesday, all started for the Blues as they let a half-time lead slip away.
Goalkeeper Fraser Forster
was in action at the San Siro as his Celtic side travelled to Italy to face AC Milan.
The Bhoys gave a spirited display but were undone by two goals in the final ten minutes as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat.
