England skipper happy after return to action for Liverpool following surgery
England skipper Steven Gerrard played his first 45 minutes of football on Saturday following shoulder surgery.
The Liverpool midfielder has been out of action since the start of May, but returned to the Reds starting line-up for their 2-0 victory over an Indonesia XI.
Gerrard played the first half for Brendan Rodgers' side as goals from Philippe Coutinho and Three Lions winger Raheem Sterling were enough for the win in Jakarta.
"It's nice to play football again in front of our all our supporters," said Gerrard.
"My shoulder felt fantastic, so it was nice to get the first 45 minutes under my belt and hopefully I'll get slightly more time in Australia.
"It's been feeling fine now for a few weeks in training, there have been absolutely no problems.
He told the official Liverpool FC website: "The surgeon gave me the go-ahead to play tonight and the manager was sensible in giving me 45 minutes. I'm really happy with how I feel."
Meanwhile Sterling praised his Liverpool team-mate Jordon Ibe, who played a major part in his 87th-minute strike.
18-year-old Sterling, who burst on to the scene at Anfield last year before earning his full international debut, says he's helping the young England forward after his introduction to the Anfield first team.
Ibe, who figured twice for England's U18s last season, netted in the Reds win at Preston North End last weekend and followed that up with another good display in Jakarta.
"I try to tell Jordon stuff that I experienced last year, which he is going through now. We're both helping each other to do well," said Sterling.
"He's been brilliant through the whole pre-season and scored in the last game."
He added: "It was a great team goal. I'm close mates with Jordon and we speak all the time. As young players we've got to encourage each other."
Gerrard and Sterling could be included in Roy Hodgson's squad next month when England take on Scotland at Wembley on Wednesday 14 August. Click here to buy your tickets for the game now.
