Brendan Rodgers says England captain is looking good after shoulder surgery
is in ‘great condition’ according to Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers after returning to pre-season training with his club.
The England skipper has been out of action since the start of May following shoulder surgery and missed the Three Lions’ end of season games against Republic of Ireland and Brazil.
With the new Premier League campaign just over a month away, and four vital World Cup Qualifiers coming up in the autumn, Rodgers hailed his captain after the first day back at their Melwood training base.
"It's like the first day back in school - all the players are back in with little tans, refreshed and looking well. None more so than Steven,” said Rodgers.
"He had his operation towards the end of the season and the plan was for him to continue his rehab over the off-season.
"It's a big credit to him - he's worked tirelessly over the summer. He won't be too far away. He looks great and is in great condition."
Rodgers told liverpoolfc.com "He's 33 now but Steven is still an integral part of what I'm trying to do here and will be for the next few years."
England's next game is the Teenage Cancer Trust International against Scotland at Wembley on Wednesday 14 August.
