Manchester United boss says Danny Welbeck will soon regain his goalscoring touch
Manchester United manager David Moyes is confident striker Danny Welbeck will soon be back in goalscoring form.
England forward Welbeck scored twice for his club last season and the new Old Trafford boss revealed he has spoken with the 22-year-old this week in Sydney to outline his faith in him.
Moyes, who saw his side lose 1-0 in their first tour match in Thailand last weekend before they travelled to Australia, believes that if the Three Lions man continues working hard, the goals will come
“When I arrived I was told how important Danny had been and how important he will be," said Moyes.
“We're giving him an opportunity now and he has the chance to get games. We're hoping his goals come as well.
“He had a couple of chances the other night. But it would be worse if he wasn't getting chances.
“Hopefully he'll start taking a few of those chances and that will give him the confidence he needs to go on a run and score plenty of goals.”
When asked if he thought Welbeck, who has scored five goals in 16 outings for England, had a confidence problem, Moyes responded: “I think he's aware himself that there's an issue.
“But I spoke to him quite a bit yesterday and I told him the harder you work you tend to find the more luck comes your way.
“If he continues to practise and tries to improve his finishing so he feels confident in taking the chances that come to him, he will be fine. "
Moyes added: “His work has never been in question. I've told him that I'm sure it will change for him if he keeps doing the right things.”
Welbeck could be included in Roy Hodgson's squad next month when England take on Scotland at Wembley on Wednesday 14 August. Click here to buy your tickets for the game now.
