Roberto Martinez believes England left-back Baines is the best in the country
England defender Leighton Baines has been described as ‘phenomenal’ by his new club manager Roberto Martinez.
The Everton boss believes the performances of the 28-year-old over the last couple of years have seen him rise to be one of the best in his position.
Baines, who has 17 caps for England, has become the standard bearer for everything the Goodison Park club represents according to Martinez.
Martinez, who won guided former club Wigan Athletic to The FA Cup
in May, said: “Leighton is a phenomenal performer and has become a very consistent player for Everton.
"The level that he has been reaching over the last few years consistently shows me that he is the best left-back in the country."
Everton have also confirmed that England Under-21 defender Luke Garbutt has signed a new two-year deal.
The left-back, a member of England's U20 World Cup squad this summer, is now contracted to the club until the summer of 2015.
