Jack Wilshere says he hopes to reach 100 caps for England like Gerrard and Lampard
wants to follow in the footsteps of his England team-mates Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard and earn 100 caps for his country.
With two vital qualifiers for the Three Lions against Montenegro on Friday night and Poland four days later, both at Wembley Stadium
, the 21-year-old admits that the pressure is on, but with experienced players in the side it can help him and the team progress.
"That’s part and parcel of being a footballer, you have to deal with that. It helps when there are big players around you, good quality players," he said.
"Lamps [Frank Lampard] and [Steven] Gerrard have won over a hundred caps. They’ll help you through it as they were young players once as well.
"Eventually that’s what I want to do, make a hundred caps. But there’s a long way to go yet, I’ve got a lot to learn and I’m still learning, but it can only help me if I’m playing with those players."
The Arsenal midfielder has lined up alongside the two centurions in his last two outings for England and says he can learn different things from them both.
Lampard, who chalked up his England ton in Ukraine last month, is known for his forward runs into the box and his goalscoring, while Gerrard, who won his 100th cap last November, has an impressive range of passing and can also weigh in with goals.
And Wilshere says they things he is looking to add to his game.
He continued: "You can talk to them anytime, Gerrard is always talking to me, saying keep going and work hard.
"He’s been there and is now the England captain, and Lampard’s the same, you can learn different things from both."
He added: "Gerrard’s range of passing and his shooting, and Lamps the way he gets forward and the goals he’s scored."
"I’ve said before I want to score a few more goals he’s a perfect one to learn from."
