By Nicholas Veevers
David Luiz lived out a childhood dream on Sunday as he played for Brazil against England at the Maracana Stadium.
It was the first match at the newly redeveloped and iconic venue and the teams put on quite a show, sharing a 2-2 draw
And for Chelsea defender Luiz, it was a first appearance at the Maracana and something he was glad to be a part of.
He told FATV
: "For me, it was my dream come true.
"It was fantastic for me because I've never had the opportunity to play here before so it was amazing.
"This stadium is our home now so hopefully in the future we will win many, many games here and some titles.”
It was a real game of two halves on Sunday, with Brazil controlling the first half and then England working their way back into the match after the break.
And the 26-year-old admits it was a hard match for Brazil to face in their first appearance in front of an expectant and lively Rio crowd.
He added: "It was a difficult game against a strong team, an experienced team with fantastic players and a fantastic coach.
"We had a good game and created a lot of opportunities to score, but we didn’t score and England are experienced.
"After that, when you don't score in the first minutes, you can't give opportunities to a team like England.”
