Montenegro boss honoured to be leading his side to Wembley this week
Montenegro boss Branko Brnovic says the honour of qualifying for a World Cup is incentive enough for his players ahead of Friday’s showdown with England at Wembley.
With his side hot on the heels of England at the top of Group H, Brnovic knows that a positive result for his side will put them in a great position to reach next summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
And he is honoured to be leading out his nation in that situation at such an iconic venue as Wembley Stadium.
He told the official match programme: “For every one of our players, it is an honour to be deciding who will go the World Cup against England at Wembley.
“We know we have good quality, we believe in ourselves and, again, we will have against us a team with big players and a big coach.
“We will certainly try to play the best we can but we have a belief in ourselves and a belief that we can do it.”
With two games to go in the group, there are four teams who can still top the table and secure an automatic route to Brazil.
There is also a possible play-off berth available for the nation which finishes second.
And Brnovic has belief that his squad have enough quality to get the results required to achieve their dream.
“I think we can do it,” he added. “Because we have the quality and I also think that this team plays much better away than home.
“Thus, I believe that players do not need any special motivation for such games, because to play against the great England team at Wembley is something that every player dreams about, especially players from Montenegro.
“It’s something that no-one ever dreamed to be possible, that such a small country could qualify for a World Cup.
“I believe this dream is on the verge of coming true, but we need to do the two matches properly to turn this dream into a reality.”
