Ryan Bertrand believes his long-term future is at Chelsea
England left-back Ryan Bertrand
says he is aiming to establish himself in Chelsea’s defence for years to come.
Bertrand, who started in Chelsea’s 4-1 victory over an Malaysia XI in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday afternoon, is determined to bide his time at Stamford Bridge and compete with fellow England man Ashley Cole
for the full-back berth.
The 23-year-old said: “I see my future being Chelsea's number one left-back.
"I don't concentrate on trying to dislodge Ashley. I just focus on myself and my game and I'm sure that time will come."
Bertrand has become a valuable squad member for the Blues and he accepts that competition for places is part and parcel of playing for a top club.
He added: "Being at a club like Chelsea, at the top level, that's just a way of life. Everyone's used to it by now."
Bertrand, who has two England caps to his name, clearly thinks success at Chelsea this season will bring more international opportunities, something he admits he is mindful of in a World Cup year.
He said: "I've just got to concentrate on my club team and get my games in there.
"In the back of my mind I'm aware of the World Cup. Hopefully I can get enough games this year and you never know."
