New Fulham loanee Darren Bent targets return to England squad ahead of World Cup
Striker Darren Bent
has his eyes fixed on a return to the England squad after completing his loan move to Fulham last week from Aston Villa.
Bent, who has 13 caps and four goals for the Three Lions, was an unused sub for the Cottagers at Sunderland on Saturday – but he hopes a prolific campaign can catapult him back into Roy Hodgson
With four games remaining in the World Cup qualifying campaign, Bent is eager to get back amongst the international scene and help England reach next summer's tournament in Brazil after missing out in the past.
He said: "I'm not just hungry to play football again, I'm absolutely starving. I've missed out on a couple of major competitions with England, but I just hope this is my year.”
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, the 29-year-old added: "I need to get back to playing regularly and scoring goals for Fulham - that's my priority. There's still so much to come from me, I can promise you that. I'm just desperate to remind people what I can do."
