Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain welcomes England and Arsenal's Jack Wilshere back to fitness
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has welcomed England and Arsenal team-mate Jack Wilshere back to fitness.
The midfielder missed the last few months of the previous campaign after undergoing surgery on a niggling ankle injury.
But Wilshere has been back in pre-season training with the Gunners this summer, as they head off to Asia for more preparation.
And Oxlade-Chamberlain admits it will be like having a new signing at the club if Wilshere can find his full fitness and form on the pitch.
The 19-year-old said: "Jack is back in training and looking really good.
“He is obviously coming away with us on tour and the fact he is looking so strong is good news for Arsenal and England.
"Hopefully, he can stay fit because he is an amazing player.”
With four important World Cup qualifiers coming up in the next few months for England, Roy Hodgson will be hoping to have all of his players fit.
And 21-year-old Wilshere’s form with both the Three Lions and the Gunners impressed last term, so Oxlade-Chamberlain knows how important he can be for both teams.
He added: "Whenever you lose someone, it dents the team in some way.
“If we can keep him fit, it will give us a lot more options and enhances competition for places."
And the former Southampton man, who scored for England against Brazil in the Maracana Stadium last month, paid tribute to Wilshere’s determination in recovering over the summer.
"One thing I have realised as he's gone through this, he is a much stronger character on and off the pitch,” he said.
“He has learned from it and has become a better man for it. He does a lot of stuff now to prevent these things from happening.
"He works really hard and is the first one in and last one out of training.
“To come through something like that, having not been able to play for so many months and always stay positive, is really mentally challenging but he did that really well.
"Last season he had a good stint in the team and now he is pushing on again."
