Des Walker becomes a permanent fixture at Italia '90.
Des Walker played every minute of every match during England’s 1990 World Cup campaign.
The centre-back – who it was claimed “you would never beat” – had an outstanding tournament under the guidance of Bobby Robson, as the Three Lions achieved fourth place in Italy.
Of his 59
international appearances this was perhaps his finest period. Playing alongside Terry Butcher and Mark Wright in the heart of defence, England proved an incredibly difficult team to beat and although the final prize eluded them, Walker had proven himself as world class.
