ACPO respond to speculation that Portuguese police are unprepared for Euro 2004.
In response to an article in men’s magazine ZOO, (published Wednesday 18th February) claiming that the Portuguese Police are not ready to tackle trouble at Euro 2004, David Swift, ACPO spokesman on football issues and Deputy Chief Constable of Staffordshire Police, said:
"I have been liaising closely with senior police officers in Portugal responsible for the tournament and the local Algarve Commander.
"They are confident that they have the right number of people, with the right training, the right approach and the right equipment."
